Week 4: 22nd – 28th January

Day 22

22nd Jan: leaves and light

22nd Jan: leafy silhouette

22nd Jan: China toy town

22nd Jan: the boys with their first Australia Day weekend beers

22nd Jan: the Beck's Bar visual feast

22nd Jan: Trevor Jackson at the helm

22nd Jan: a day of culture. I had the afternoon off work so headed to the Wildlife Photographer Of The Year exhibition at the Australian Museum. It’s one of my favourite exhibitions as nature photography is one of the genres I love to shoot. And it didn’t disappoint, except for the fact that the Museum closes at 5pm so I had to speed-read the descriptions of the last few shots. Inspired, I took a stroll through Hyde Park and took a few snaps of interesting leaf formations, then met Bobby, Martin and Chris to focus on the more important task of celebrating the Australia Day long weekend with beer. The culture continued at the Beck’s Bar which hosts the dance music acts of the Sydney Festival. Trevor Jackson was on the decks and didn’t disappoint with an awesome set.

Day 23

23rd Jan: Anna feeling the heat

23rd Jan: it’s a scorcher today. 39C in the city and 43C in the west where thousands of kids are heading for Big Day Out. Anna was also heading there but not enjoying the prospect of hours of stifling heat, lack of water, and sweaty bodies crushing each other. But she need not have worried. The weather turned dramatically in the afternoon, with the temperature dropping by 15C and thunderstorms pelting Sydney. More like Big Day Wash Out! I chose to go down the cultural route and attended Symphony in the Domain in VIP style, meaning food, champagne, and plastic sheets to keep us dry!

23rd Jan: VIP view of Symphony in the Domain

23rd Jan: Symphony Soprano

Day 24

24th Jan: Ali K's new Bondi keys

Day 25

25th Jan: Bobby's bathroom bottles

25th Jan: Manly Wharf Bar shapes

25th Jan: a little adventure for me and Bobby. Over to Manly for a trek around North Head in the sun. And then refreshing beer drinks at the Wharf Bar.

Day 26

26th Jan: too hot for hats

26th Jan: backseat view

26th Jan: sartorialist poser

26th Jan: umpire of the sun

26th Jan: Australia Day and the traditional second round of the Amateur Ashes charity cricket series. A great day out in the sun at Reg Bartley Oval in Rushcutters Bay with something for everyone: friendly team rivalry, picnics, entertainment for the kids, and a live band. And England won (of course).

Day 27

27th Jan: unroadworthy

Day 28

28th Jan: toy soldiers
